Solar Water Heaters are an inexpensive way to cut your energy bill for domestic hot water. The ones we buy from our Chinese supplier can be used in cold weather, because the vacuum tube collectors have anti freeze in a copper tube inside each vacuum glass tube. Once the heat is transferred to the tank inside the house a heat exchanger in the tank delivers the heat to the tank's contents, which then can be drawn off the same as any other hot water heater. If needed, a supplementary electrical heater can be installed in case the sun does not shine for maybe 4 or 5 days.
